Kenya is focusing on solar energy, and in Ethiopia the import of combustion engines was banned at the beginning of 2024. And Kenya is building its own electric buses and even electrifying classic cars. In this country and in Europe, there is still much debate about electromobility. Africa is focusing on climate protection and less dependence on oil imports, which are extremely expensive. Ethiopia, which is feeling the effects of climate change keenly, is exciting because it has no car industry of its own. The country is planning to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and is investing heavily in renewable energies. It still needs more charging stations and a reliable power supply. In any case, the purchase of an electric car in Ethiopia is tax privileged. By 2030, 439,000 vehicles are expected to be electric there, which is around a third. In Kenya, more than 90 percent of electricity already comes from renewable energies, primarily solar energy. In any case, Kenya produces electric motorcycles and electric buses in the country. The latter are even cheaper than diesel buses in the long term.
Battery metals are needed to achieve global climate targets. Portable devices, electric vehicles and storage systems for renewable energies need these battery metals.
According to a recent study by fundamentalbusinessinsights, the market for battery metals will grow to almost USD 25.25 billion by 2034. In 2024, this market only amounted to 11.59 billion US dollars. This results in an annual growth rate of more than eight percent. In addition to lithium and cobalt, battery metals also include copper, nickel and titanium.
Cobalt and nickel are available in the Crawford nickel-cobalt sulphide project in Ontario at the Canada Nickel Company – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/canada-nickel-company-inc/ -.
Green Bridge Metals – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/green-bridge-metals-corp/ – has nickel and copper in the advanced Chrome Puddy project in Ontario (Canada) in the Thunder Bay Mining Division.
